2010 Richmond Valley Business Excellence Awards

Winner: Excellence in Agribusiness

Highly Commended: Most Environmentally Friendly Business

Owned by Trevor and Amanda Roberts and located in Bungawalbin, in Richmond Valley in New South Wales' Northern Rivers region, just two hours from the Queensland border, Forest Glen Organic Farm is a fully certified organic farm based on a tea tree plantation. This delightful country haven, with its events venue and farm stay accommodation, is located on the banks of Bungawalbyn Creek: it is ideal for weddings, yoga or holiday retreats, parties or as a destination for an eco tour.

A short drive from Byron Bay and even closer to Ballina with its Byron-Ballina Airport, Grafton, Lismore and Casino, and and a small hop from Woodburn, Coraki, Evans Head and other Northern Rivers communities, Forest Glen Organic Farm and Farmstay is a perfect vacation destination, with comfortable accommodation, a pool and the opportunity to see plenty of wildlife.

Relax. Swim in the pool. Stroll around our 3-acre billabong. Explore the forest and bushland, both on and off the property. Observe native wildlife. Bring your binoculars and your birdwatching guide (we have catalogued over 100 bird species on the property) or wonder at our Southern night skies. Pat our horses. Feed our chooks. Ride bikes. Put a kayak in the creek. Fish for Australian bass. Play with our friendly border collies. Learn about our organic tea tree oil. Warm up next to the bonfire. The activities are endless!

We are an ecotourism destination: the trees and waterholes are alive with birds; the grounds are home to abundant kangaroos; there are numerous lizards and, in the 3-acre billabong, tortoises and various aquatic life; a variety of frogs make themselves known, both audibly and visibly; occasional possums, antechinus and microbats emerge; the air moves with myriad dragonflies, moths and other insects. All of this amidst the most restful of country scenes.

"...These past few days have exceeded all our expectations. Your willingness to go the extra mile has made our stay very special. We've all appreciated your thoughtfulness."

Authors of "WWOOF Hosting: A Practical Guide" and "WWOOFers Handbook: A Down to Earth Guide for Volunteering", we've hosted WOOFers and WorkAwayers continuously since 2007. Duties include hothouse and crop planting, tea tree harvesting and plantation maintenance, and garden/yard maintenance.
