ACTIVITIES ON (and off) THE FARM

There are plenty of recreational activities available for both adults and children. Forest Glen Organic Farm is open all year round, so you can enjoy the warmth of a bonfire during the colder months or cool down in our pool when the weather warms up. Experience the country and get close to nature during your stay with us, or venture off the farm to scout the surrounding area. A stay of a few nights at our farmstay accommodation will ensure that you have enough time to explore the area.

STARGAZING

The clear country air and absence of external light sources, especially if the moon is not around, make us an ideal celestial viewing site. In the early evenings, look for satellites orbiting high above. Later, lie down and look up and soak it all up - you're almost certain to see a "shooting star", not to mention the awe of the Milky Way.

Bring a pair of binoculars or a telescope and be entertained by the stars. Ask Trevor to share his knowledge of these vast Southern skies.

WALKABOUT

It is nearly a kilometre to Bungawalbyn Creek, a walk that will take you past native bushland, fields of tea tree plantation, grassland, waterholes and gullies.

Watch out for kangaroos and, if you come across the farm's six friendly horses, stop for a pat and talk to them.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Use the beautiful surroundings to capture special moments. We are often blessed with colourful sunsets and wonderful misty mornings or clear night skies that result in a myriad of natural delights.

The kangaroos, horses, birds and reptiles are particular favourites, while night time brings out all manner of beautiful moths, spiders and other curious insects: they, in turn, bring the beautiful little microbats.

PLAY

Play a game of Cricket, T-Ball / Softball / Baseball / Table Tennis / Pool - or swim in the pool.

Our friendly border collies, Wags and Sophie, are willing participants in any form of human contact activity. They will field for you during ball games, swim with you or walk with you.

FISHING & BOATING

Bungawalbyn Creek, which is wide and navigable for shallow craft, adjoins the property. Access to the creek enables the launching of a boat, canoe, kayak or surf ski into the creek.

Once on the water, you are transported to a new world, and you sense that you could be in the wilds almost anywhere in Australia.

Please bring your own equipment.

BIRDWATCHING

Forest Glen comprises 62.45 Ha (154 acres) of land, with numerous billabongs (waterholes), access to the beautiful Bungawalbyn Creek (see Fishing and Boating above), riparian zones, wide open spaces, melaleuca forests, tall and short trees, tree canopies, dead and fallen trees, and much more to attract birds. Interestingly, noisy farming activities very effectively attract birds that come for the insects and small animals that are disturbed by the activity.

We have catalogued over 100 diferrent bird species that live on or visit our property. Depending on the season and how dry or wet it is, you might see swans, pelicans, brolgas, jabiru, spoonbills, parrots, tumblers, honey eaters and many more.  You will need your binoculars, walking boots, a camera, a hat, a good reference book and water.
